Chamois Leather and Scrim — The Professional's Upgrade

The next significant step forward in window cleaning came with the adoption of chamois leather and scrim cloth, long regarded as the gold standard for professionals. 

A chamois leather is a soft, natural or synthetic leather that holds a remarkable amount of water and releases it in a very controlled way. Used wet, it applies water evenly across the glass and excels at lifting grease and general grime without leaving heavy streaks. Do not allow it to dry out and crack if you want it to last.

The scrim, a tightly woven linen or cotton cloth, is typically used almost dry to polish the glass after the chamois has done the initial cleaning. Its fine weave allows it to pick up remaining moisture, smears, and dust, leaving a clear, bright finish. 

Together, chamois and scrim offer a reliable, time-tested method that many professionals still trust for high-quality, streak-free results.
